While planning the courses and workshops we assumed that the most important elements of Spatial Information Systems are the people. That is why, our courses guarantee the comfort of getting knowledge and appropriate skills. Also, in spite of high content-related level, they take place in a nice, relaxed atmosphere as we do our best in order to create the best learning conditions. Regardless of the knowledge the participants have before the course, they have a chance to find solutions to many technological and content-related problems. Thanks to our courses participants can acquire a new level of consciousness of GIS technology which, as a result, will help them to shape their careers in this area. The course groups have optimal numbers of participants so that course leaders are able to devote enough time to every individual. Each course is run according to its syllabus, which is often modified and adapted to the needs of participants. In this way each person taking part in a course makes his or her own contribution to its content.
The courses and workshops take place on SmallGIS premises (in Cracow, the Bieszczady Mountains) or on customers’ premises. We supply hardware (computers and other necessary equipment) as well as GPS equipment and GIS software. The courses and workshops are highly recommended to those who already use GIS systems as well as those who are going to introduce them in the future. The workshops usually last 3 – 5 days depending on the themes.
At the moment we are organizing the following:
- Analysis of continuous variable in ArcGIS
- GIS tools in spatial planning
- Techniques of GPS measurements
- Cartography and data anayses in ArcGIS
- Updating the Digital Map of Forests
- GIS for naturalists and ecologists
Please, contact the Training Department to see the dates of the courses and workshops
Analysis of the continuous variable in ArcGIS
Complex relationships, links and patterns of spatial natural phenomena need higher levels of thinking and analyses based on the model of the continuous variable. Coming forward with answers to difficult questions, testing hypotheses, modeling, making simulations and analyses require the use of techniques other than those working in the vector model or classical cartography. The course pregame includes exercises with the use of extensions of ArcGIS in interpolation (Tisse’s, ID, Spline, Kriging, BalcBox), algebra of maps, coefficients of continuous surfaces, conversions half-tone screen-vector, vector- half-tone screen, creating models of geoprocessing, visualization techniques, continuous data presentation.

Updating the Numerical Map of Forests
Updating the Numerical Map of Forests is a workshop for the people working in forestry or for the people as well as companies supplying services for the National Forestry. The workshops have been organized since 2008 and are still very popular. Many of the course participants have achieved a success using LMN.
Topic of workshops:
- the structure of SIP in National Forests
- sources for data updating
- editing techniques
- functional division of the layers of LMN structure
- flows between the structures
- LMN control and error verification
- technology of layers updating
- saving the changes and verification of map correctness

Techniques of GPS surveying
These workshops allow the optimization of the use of GPS technology in numerous aspects offield work aiming at data capture to GIS systems. A participant learns basic theory that refers to the functioning of satellite systems of positioning and the structure of GPS devices that are used for GIS purposes. Also, course participants assess the advantages and limitations of GPS devices, learn to use mobile devices as well as devices and equipment used in offices. Outdoor classes help them to acquire practical skills such as optimization of surveying factors, surveying techniques and improvement of surveying accuracy (EGNOS, DGPS, post processing). The most important skills that are practiced are the techniques of working out the measurements and their application in the process of updating GIS data bases.
Length of the course: 4 days

Cartography and data analyses in ArcGIS
This workshop shows a variety of possibilities of GIS techniques in cartographic, analytic and editing aspect. However, to attend this course candidates ought to have a certain amount of knowledge referring to GIS technology acquired during previous editions of the workshop, other course or studies. Course participants will have a chance to learn to use a lot applications that are in the ArcIS package (ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcToolbox, ModelBuilder, VBA Editor) as well as the extensions of ArcGIS.

GIS for naturalists and ecologists
Helps to start your own work (inventory, planting, research, educational in the scope of nature protection) using the most modern GS/GPS technology. It presents the rules of the environment modeling in GIS systems, spatial data administration, solving tasks of cognitive and educational nature, optimization of decision processes on the basis of spatial analyses, results presentation, communication.

GIS tools in spatial planning
The content of the course includes ArcGIS desktop components, advanced visualization of data in ArcMAP, using various spatial data formats, national standards of spatial data - using MPZP, data editing in AcGIS – trics&tips, configuration of geodatabase, establishing domains, using VBA in field calculator, labeling and creating tools, technical guidelines of graphic design in MPZP, tools helping to create layers for particular purposes, tools used for making calculations needed in the settlement of accounts, automation of maps and prints preparation in various scales and formats, steps for creating of technological line of graphic design by means of ESRI applications and extensions of SprintMAP
